Proctor and Shaw
Location: Peckham, London
Proctor and Shaw's Hope Villa extension in Peckham balances form and function through a precise timber volume and carefully framed daylight. Clad in narrow vertical Accoya battens, the project retains the steel structure of an earlier addition while introducing a more coherent architectural language.
A defining move is the upward expansion: a double-height tower-like living space with high-level glazing that draws light deep into the plan. At roof level, a tiered garden and productive planting area transform a difficult parapet condition into usable outdoor space.
At ground level, full-height sliding doors open the skylit dining area to a landscaped rain garden, strengthening the interior-exterior relationship. Birch-lined walls conceal storage and services to keep rooms visually quiet, while a separate rear studio extends the home's flexibility for work and daily life.
